The Income Tax Deptt acknowledged that some taxpayers received email communications containing incorrect details of ‘significant transactions’. It stated that it is actively working with its service provider to correct the error. Taxpayers have been advised to ignore the earlier emails containing inaccurate information. It clarified that such communications are facilitative reminders meant to encourage voluntary compliance, and are not enforcement notices. Taxpayers are advised to verify their transaction details, on the Compliance Portal, accessible via the e-Filing portal.
